Queen supports Turkey's entry to Europe

Queen Elizabeth II and husband Prince Philip left Turkey last Friday after a four-day visit to the secular Islamic republic, showing their support for Turkey's entry into the European Union.

The royal couple visited a number of museums and historical sites, including the tomb of secularist Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, founder and first president of the Turkish Republic.

In Bursa, capital of the Ottoman Empire in the 14th century, the 82-year-old monarch entered an ancient mosque where she listened to a reading of verses from the Koran, Islam's holy book.

On her last day, the queen attended an event hosted by Nick Baird, Britain's ambassador, before leaving Ankara. It was the queen's second visit to Turkey.

Turkey first entered negotiations with the EU to become a member in 2005 with the constant support of Britain.

Many overseas property investors believe that investing in Turkey's property market before the country enters the EU, especially along the Mediterranean Coast around the Bodrum area, could be a profitable investment.
