A foothold in the Mediterranean area

02 July 2008

A foothold in the Mediterranean area

Turkey is a "fresh market" and one of the favourite destinations in the Mediterranean for property buyers looking for a place in the sun.

Mark Wilson, product acquisition manager at Propertyshowrooms.com, said: "Turkey has a lot of potential, in terms of location, flights and infrastructure. It's been a popular resort destination for a number of years."

Temperatures in the Bodrum area, which is situated on the western coast, reach around 21 degrees C in April when in the UK the average temperatures struggle to go past the 11 degrees C mark, making of Turkey an ideal sun spot close to home.

The year-round sunshine destination is indeed only five hours away from London, the equivalent of around five to six commutes in the capital.

Research from the Turkish embassy in London has shown that almost 17,500 UK citizens owned real estate in Turkey in 2006, compared to 2,964 three years before.

Property prices in Turkey have increased by almost 40 per cent in just two years according to New Turkish Properties, and the market is expected to carry on flourishing this year.
