Garden Cottage
A rural retreat yet close to the beach
Garden Cottage stands within its own walled garden and is accessed part way along a dry riverbed which meanders its way through the groves.
The cottage itself, originally a small rural barn, has been completely renovated into a delightful character home by the owner Banu who has a real flair for interior design. The terrace at the front overlooks the rambling garden with its wild flowers and fruit trees. In amongst all this, there’s an inviting splash pool with Jacuzzi and a hammock, perfect for those lazy days.

Garden Cottage literally jumped out of the brochure at me when choosing my holiday and one of my colleagues said "You realise the pool is only a plunge pool" when I got there I thought "Only a plunge pool!! You might not have been able to swim 50 metre lengths every morning but, it was bigger than imagined and certainly big enough for a dip and a float around." It’s even got a Jacuzzi in one corner!
I can’t begin to tell you how pleased I was with staying at this cottage and it definitely gave us the best of both worlds with the private grounds which must have been a few acres (although I am not brilliant with scale), it was like a vineyard with lots of mandarin trees perfectly lined across the land anyway! It was literally a few minutes walk to the seafront but is accessed down a pathway leading off away from the main road so it feels so private and peaceful.
My partner did some windsurfing at Bitez and he found it a good location, as Bitez is a fairly enclosed bay so good for learners. There are also lots of restaurants on the seafront although these tend to be more expensive than the ones set back from the front. If like us you want to experience true Turkish food, I'd suggest venturing out a bit further a field away from the seafront. We did this and actually found a little place, which was full of locals (we were the only tourists in there) and using a few words and pointing we were brought a feast of traditional food and was one of the best meals we had!!
It was mid October when we were here and although it's warm during the day, it was cold at night so be sure to pack a jumper (unlike me, brrrr)! You do, however, get a few bargains when shopping though because "end of season, good price".
The cottage was really comfortable and we often played our CDs whilst pottering around and being chilly at night took advantage of the open fire place and lit a fire in the lounge cosied up on the sofa, brilliant escape for a couple.
